The hotel
A Georgian corner of the north inner city, reawakened.
Bolton Street has spent most of its life making things. Coach-builders, cabinetmakers, printers, and for the last century the technical college that taught half the trades in the city. The bones of the street are working bones — brick, cast iron, granite kerbs worn into dips — and the hotel is built to match, not to smooth them over.
Inside, the register is warm and low-lit: deep greens, oiled timber, plaster left honest, brass that will get better with handling. Rooms are quiet and generously curtained, because this is a city-centre street and you came here to sleep. Downstairs, a room that works as a lobby at nine, a workspace at noon and a bar by seven.
Step out the door and you are five minutes from Capel Street — since it was given back to pedestrians, the best eating street in the city — and about the same from Smithfield, Henrietta Street and the Hugh Lane. Trinity and Temple Bar are a walk, not a taxi.
