The hotel
Phibsborough’s own — canal, cathedral of football, and a very good corner.
Phibsborough is defined by its junction. Doyle’s Corner is where the roads from Cabra, Glasnevin and the city meet, under the spire of St Peter’s, and the whole neighbourhood organises itself around that crossing — the shops, the pubs, the queue at the chipper, the flow of people down to the canal.
Hotel Phizz is built for that rhythm. Rooms are compact and considered, with good beds, better blackout and windows that open. The ground floor is a room for the neighbourhood first and guests second — coffee early, a decent pint later, and a big table you can sit at without buying anything much.
And then there is Dalymount. Bohemian FC have played on that patch since 1901, and matchday in Phibsborough is unlike anything else in Irish sport — a club owned by its members, a ground in the middle of terraced streets, and a walk to the game that starts at your own front door.
